Former company notebooks are robust, easy to upgrade and, bought used, often much cheaper than a new consumer device. Here you'll find ThinkPad, EliteBook, Latitude and more – new, used and refurbished.

Why used business laptops are so popular

Companies usually lease notebooks for three to four years and then return them in large numbers. Specialist dealers test, clean and reinstall the devices – and that's how the refurbished market comes about. Business ranges such as ThinkPad, EliteBook or Latitude are built for continuous use: sturdy chassis, good keyboards, spare parts for years, service hatches and often replaceable RAM and SSD.

This page deliberately shows new, used and refurbished offers together. You can see the condition on every offer card – “used” usually means private or untested goods, while “refurbished” (e.g. “Good”, “Very good”, “Excellent”) means the dealer has tested, reconditioned and graded the device.

Windows 11: check the processor generation

Microsoft ended regular support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. So buy a device that officially supports Windows 11: requirements include TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and a supported processor – roughly Intel Core from the 8th generation (model numbers like i5-8350U) or AMD Ryzen from the 2000 series. Many dealers already ship the devices with Windows 11 Pro.

As a rule of thumb for office work, working from home and studying: Intel Core i5 from the 10th generation, 16 GB RAM and a 256 to 512 GB SSD. A Full HD display (1920 × 1080) is a must – older business devices with 1366 × 768 pixels look very coarse today.

  • Windows 11-compatible CPU (Intel 8th gen+, Ryzen 2000+)
  • Full HD display instead of HD (1366 × 768)
  • 16 GB RAM, SSD of 256 GB or more
  • Check for the German QWERTZ keyboard layout

Statutory warranty, battery and condition

If you buy from a commercial dealer in Germany, you're entitled to the statutory warranty even on used goods; for second-hand items, however, it may be shortened to one year. Private sellers can exclude it. Some refurbishers also offer their own guarantee on top.

The battery is the number one wear part. Reputable offers state the remaining capacity or guarantee a minimum value. Also look out for notes on display spots, keyboard wear and whether a charger is included.
