The EliteBook is HP's premium business line. We bring together offers from the EliteBook 840 G6 up to current models – with condition and price history.
How to decode EliteBook model names
On classic EliteBooks, the number reveals the display size: 830 stands for 13.3 inches, 840 for 14 inches and 850 for 15.6 inches. A 5 in the last position (such as 845) marks variants with an AMD Ryzen processor. The “G” followed by a number is the generation – the higher, the newer.
The particularly sought-after EliteBook 840 G7 (from 2020) has 10th-generation Intel Core processors, typically the i5-10210U or i5-10310U; the G8 follows with the 11th generation (e.g. i5-1135G7/1145G7), and the G6 has the 8th generation. All three are officially Windows 11-compatible. Newer EliteBooks partly use new naming schemes such as “EliteBook 6” or “EliteBook 8”.
- 830 = 13.3″, 840 = 14″, 850 = 15.6″
- 845/855 = AMD Ryzen instead of Intel
- G6 ≈ Intel 8th gen, G7 ≈ 10th gen, G8 ≈ 11th gen
What matters with a used EliteBook
Many EliteBooks come in variants with HD or Full HD displays, with or without a touchscreen, and some with the “Sure View” privacy screen. Look for “FHD” or “1920 × 1080” in the description. 16 GB RAM is ideal for office work and lots of browser tabs; on many 840 models, the memory can be expanded via SO-DIMM slots.
Condition grades such as “Good – Refurbished” or “Very good” refer to signs of use. Check the photos for display spots and shiny keys. A tested battery and an included USB-C charger save follow-up costs.
Who an EliteBook is right for
The EliteBook is well suited to office work, studying, working from home and remote work. For gaming or demanding video editing it lacks a dedicated graphics card. If you're looking for the cheapest way in, take a look at the ProBook series, which is built slightly more simply.
Comparing prices pays off
EliteBooks of the same generation are offered by many dealers at the same time. When comparing, pay attention to details such as touchscreen, LTE modem, display variant and included charger.
A used EliteBook is often cheaper than a new entry-level notebook, yet offers a metal chassis, a better keyboard and more ports. If you're torn between two generations, the extra cost of the newer one is usually worth it – for the battery, processor and longer usability.
