14 inches is the best size for anyone who takes their notebook with them every day. Here you can compare compact models – from new ultrabooks to refurbished business devices.

The sweet spot for travel

A 14-inch laptop (around 35.6 cm diagonal) usually weighs between 1.2 and 1.6 kg and fits into almost any bag. The keyboard is still full width; only the number pad is missing. That's why 14-inch models are the first choice for students, commuters and field staff – and the typical size of business ranges such as the ThinkPad T14, EliteBook 840 or Latitude 5420/7420.

Resolution and aspect ratio

Full HD (1920 × 1080) is the minimum requirement. Many newer devices use 16:10 with 1920 × 1200 (WUXGA) or higher, which shows more lines when reading and writing. With used business models you'll still find variants with HD resolution (1366 × 768) – they're cheap, but tiring on the eyes in the long run.

Battery and ports

Because 14-inch models are often used on the move, battery life counts. Low-power processors from the U series (Intel) or U/HS series (AMD), as well as Snapdragon X chips with ARM architecture, deliver particularly long runtimes. Charging via USB-C is standard on newer devices, so you can share one charger between your phone and laptop.

Check the ports: at least two USB-C or USB-A sockets, HDMI for presentations and ideally a headphone jack should be present.

  • Under 1.5 kg for carrying every day
  • Full HD or WUXGA (16:10)
  • USB-C charging and HDMI output
  • Used: choose a Windows 11-compatible CPU

New or refurbished?

This page shows new and used 14-inch models together, because many high-quality business devices in this size are sold as returns. You can see the condition on each offer card. New models bring current processors with an AI unit, often a brighter 16:10 display and a fresh battery. Refurbished devices are cheaper and robust, but have a used battery and usually an older display format.

For a work device that should last several years, 16 GB RAM and an SSD of 512 GB or more make sense – whether new or used. If you use the laptop at a desk with a monitor, keyboard and mouse, a USB-C port with display and charging support makes for an easy docking setup.
